From an early age, Dallas-native Real Emaj knew he was destined to make a musical impact on the world. Born LaDarrion Darnell and the oldest of six kids, Real Emaj began honing his craft at the age of 12. The multitalented threat was exposed to soul music often when going to church with his grandfather and great grandmother. Sharing a bed and a bedroom with his younger brother, he used music as an escape. His Uncle would exercise his focus and speed on production at an early age. He would sing to himself self and write lyrics about how he was feeling. His inspiration comes from the likes of Michael Jackson, Static Major, and Tank. He learned the building blocks to composition, songwriting and production which would later prove beneficial.
In high school, Real Emaj vied to help his mother and family by picking up job at a tax office, all the while playing basketball and football for his high school teams. After discovering he had kidney stones, Real Emaj hung up his jerseys and decided to no longer play. In an attempt to please his mother, Real Emaj attended college and work but made the difficult decision to pursue music full-time.
Real Emaj decided to share his craft with the world through Facebook live, which caught the eyes and ears of Dallas hometown influencers and radio stations as well as The Lifestyle Music Group’s CEO, Spank Martinez who vowed to bring the worlds ears to be hear Real Emaj’s talent.
